Project Ujyalo Bhabisya - Purpose
The overall aim of Project UB is poverty alleviation in the Sunsari and neighbouring districts in the East of Nepal. This will contribute to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, in particular the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger. To achieve the overall aim of poverty alleviation, Project UB has two objectives:
- Improved access to essential resources and opportunities in order to increase human, social and financial capital.
- Increased ability to make informed choices and influence change through gains in knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices.
The project will have a significant impact for the rural poor by:
- Increasing their access to education (basic and primary education), health services and income (through activities aimed at increasing employment, income generation and access to financial capital and information).
- Empowerment through increased literacy and numeracy, life skills, health and rights awareness, and income generation capability.
