What we do
Development Nepal works with the poorest individuals and communities in the Sunsari district of Nepal. Our aim is to help people in Sunsari access essential resources and opportunities, and to give them greater resilience and independence through education, healthcare and micro-finance in a programme called Ujyalo Bhabisya (meaning ‘A Brighter Future’).
On a day-to-day level we have delivered Programme Ujyalo Bhabisya to over 4,000 people across 45 communities, using community facilitators, and supported by a small team of local Nepalese staff.
Since 2015 we have focused increasingly on our micro-finance and livelihoods initiative, with the establishment of an Ujyalo Bhabisya Co-operative. Investing our time and resources into enabling the Ujyalo Bhabisya Co-operative to become self-sufficient, should generate funds in a sustainable manner for the traditional Programme Ujyalo Bhabisya activities.
You can see more about our work in Nepal in a video, in which we interview those benefitting from our work at Ujyalo Bhabisya or read impact case studies at Ujyalo Bhabisya Case Studies.
Development Nepal is a UK registered charity established in 1999 (Charity number 1085199).
Our Annual Report for 2016 will shortly be released. Should you requires any information before it is released please don’t hesitate to contact the trustees: firstname.lastname@example.org.
